Turing Pi 2

My Personal Cluster

New Shiny Objects

As a programmer, I have a surprising interest in infrstratucture and devops.

I learned Kubernetes because it seemed very cool.

I setup a homelab using VMWare because it also seemed cool, but having a giant rack running in my closet seems strange. Plus the hardware is aging fast and already quite old.

Enter Turing Pi.

Turing Pi Clusterboard

I think this was probably a targeted ad on social media, but it sure got me good.

The Turing Pi 2 is a mini clusterboard that allows you to add multiple computer modules to for a mini computing cluster.

What is a mini computing cluster?

My simplistic understanding is that you can configure your cluster in all sorts of ways, one of which is to configure each compute module as a node in a a kubernetes cluster.

So that's what I did.

Naked on the Desk

I've had my Turing Pi 2 board for a long time but I've only started working with it recently because of personal time scarcity.

For quite a while, it was siting on my desk without a case just waiting for someone or something to break it in a bad way.

Turing Pi Mini-ITX Case

I just recently received my mini-ITX case from TuringPi and it has rejuvenated my interest in getting this new kubernetes cluster up an running.

Check back for future updates to this article for more details on this build.
